How to Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy 

What the Chaplet Is 

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is a powerful Catholic prayer on rosary beads revealed by Our Lord Jesus Christ to Saint Faustina. It centers on the Passion and Death of Christ and offers His sacrifice to the Eternal Father in the hope of mercy for the whole world. Though especially recommended at the Hour of Mercy (3:00 PM), it may be prayed at any time with faith, reverence, and trust in Jesus. 

What You Need 

• A set of rosary beads 

• A spirit of recollection and prayer 

• Trust in God’s mercy 

Opening Prayer (Optional) 

Begin with the Sign of the Cross and the invocation: 

“O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You.” (Repeat three times.) 

Introductory Prayers 

On the crucifix and the opening beads say: 

• Our Father 

• Hail Mary 

• The Apostles’ Creed 

The Chaplet Prayers (Each Decade) 

Using the rosary, move through the decades, remembering Christ’s Passion and Death and offering that sacrifice for mercy.  

On the large beads, before each decade, say the offering provided in the devotion: 

“Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.  

On the small beads, you repeat this for ten decades: 

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”

Proceed through the Chaplet with a spirit of prayerful recollection, holding before the Father the sacrifice of Christ and praying for mercy on the whole world.
